DAWN Extended for 40 Days at Vesta

Hey Space Placers!

NASA just announced that DAWN, currently in orbit around the second largest asteroid Vesta, will get an additional 40 days for observations.

This is GREAT news as it will allow more time to accumulate data and images of Vesta before heading out to DAWN's next target, Ceres. The spacecraft will still arrive at Ceres on its original target date in February 2015 although it won't leave Vesta until August 26, 2012.
