Humans by design live in the present.
We tend to ignore that our planet is 4.5 billion years old and is a dynamic world that has and is always changing.
I have always said that, "If you change the planet's climate or geology, you change humanity." Well, climate change is happening and we are seeing the results. Geology changes in the form of earthquakes and volcanoes certainly make change happen on a large but still local scale.
This video from ESA shows a period of time in the past when the continents were joined together. It is pretty amazing to see and comprehend, especially knowing that they are still on the move for eons to come.
