Hey, Space Placers!

Well, at least my name is, and yours can too!

NASA invites the public to submit their name just like I did to get their Virtual Boarding Pass to go to the Moon with the upcoming Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover (VIPER) mission.

An artist’s concept of the completed design of NASA’s VIPER, or Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover. VIPER will get a close-up view of the location and concentration of ice and other resources at the Moon’s South Pole, bringing us a significant step closer to NASA’s ultimate goal of a long-term presence on the Moon – making it possible to eventually explore Mars and beyond.

As stated by NASA in their News Release, "As part of the “Send Your Name with VIPER” campaign, NASA will accept names received before 11:59 p.m. EST, March 15. Once collected, the agency will take the names and attach them to the rover."

VIPER is scheduled for a late 2024 launch and will land at the Moon's South Pole. There the intrepid and groundbreaking rover will explore that area of the Moon for potential resources and gather vital data.

It is exciting to see missions going to the Moon once again just as NASA and the Soviet Union did in the late 1950's and 1960's. Right now there are active lunar missions from NASA, Japan, Korea, India, China with more coming.
