The Great Rift is a dark swath in the Milky Way - SEE IT NOW
Hey, Space Placers!
My "Fanciful" Milky Way Image Highlights the Dark Rift
Greg Redfern
If you are out at a dark sky site in the next few weeks when the Moon out of the sky and your eyes are fully dark adapted, take a look from the southwest horizon to overhead as soon as it gets dark.
You will see a milky band of light with a lengthy dark streak running its length. That dark streak is known as "The Great Rift".
Learn more about it here and then look for yourself. It is quite the sight to see in August. It will still be visible for a few months but not as well positioned as now.
Enjoy!
