How far back in time can the naked eye see?

This fuzzy spot is a pic of the Andromeda Galaxy, taken at sea. 

It resembles how the galaxy looks in binoculars. You can see it

with the unaided eye. It is about 2.5 million light years distant and 

the farthest object we can easily see with just our eyes.
