Universe’s expansion might be slowing down, not speeding up

 Hey, Space Placers!

Universe's expansion: A spiral galaxy with a bright point of light in the lower left.

Researchers used Type Ia supernovas, similar to SN1994d (pictured above in its host galaxy NGC4526), to help establish that the universe’s expansion may actually have started to slow. For decades, scientists have believed the universe’s expansion was accelerating. The new research upends that paradigm. Image via NASA/ ESA/ RAS(CC BY 4.0).
