LADEE Spaceflight First - Laser Comms

Hey Space Placers!

NASA's Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer made spaceflight history on October 22, 2013 by sending laser based communications from the Moon.

At a distance of 239,000 miles the laser pulses achieved an amazing 622 megabits per second (ups) download rate. That is about 5x times as fast as can be done with radio frequency based comms. An error free upload rate of 20 mps was achieved also.
